The striking Maria Callas mural in Kalamata, created by Greek visual artist KLE (Kleomenis Kostopoulos), was named the world’s best mural of 2025 by the Street Art Cities platform, placing Greek street art firmly on the international map. The artwork covers the entire façade of a multi-storey building on Aristomenous Street and has already become one of the city’s most recognizable contemporary landmarks.

The composition portrays the legendary soprano with a poetic approach and strong symbolism, surrounded by branches, birds, and fruit that reference nature and the cultural identity of the Messinia region. Through this visual language, the mural connects Callas’s global legacy with local heritage and modern Greek creativity, transforming the urban landscape into a living artistic narrative.

Created as part of an initiative to strengthen public art in Kalamata’s city center, the mural quickly attracted attention from residents and visitors and gained international visibility across art and travel communities. With this distinction, it highlights the growing impact of Greek urban art and its role as a powerful form of cultural expression in public space.
