In place of the mediocre, standard in-line 6-cylinder engine, it had a brand new 3.5-liter V-8 that offered more than a 25% increase in power. It was advertised as the &#8220;engine of tomorrow&#8221; by Mercedes and had aluminum alloy cylinder heads, electronic Bosch fuel injection, and transistor ignition, delivering 230 hp, reaching 100 km \/ h in less than 10 seconds.
