On Saturday night, November 30, the heart of cinema was beating at the Greek Film Archive, where the audience had the opportunity to watch the first directorial work of the multi-talented Ariane Lambert. Her film, September Says<\/em>, was screened as part of the 8th WIFT GR Festival, garnering warm comments from the audience and critics.<\/p>\n

Ariane Labed, partner of Yorgos Lanthimos and known for her excellent performances in films such as Attenberg<\/em> and Alps<\/em>, made her directorial debut with her first feature film, proving that her talent goes beyond acting. Based on the novel Sisters<\/em> by Daisy Johnson, a young author who has already made her mark on the literary world, the film captures the dark, gothic atmosphere of the book, while focusing powerfully on the intense and multi-layered relationships of the characters.<\/p>\n

A gripping story about human relationships<\/strong><\/h4>\n

September Says tells the story of two sisters, July and September, who share a special bond. Their characters are complete opposites: September is outgoing and lively, while July is much more introverted. When their lives bring them to a secluded cottage in Ireland, their relationship is tested through a series of surreal events that border on psychological thriller.<\/p>\n

The director, in the Q&A that followed the screening, stated that Johnson’s book deeply moved her: “Her writing uniquely conveys the dark atmosphere, even in the most ordinary moments. I wanted to talk about the women’s issue through this story.”<\/p>\n

Labed at WIFT GR: A world of equal opportunities in cinema<\/strong><\/p>\n

WIFT GR (Women in Film and Television Greece), which hosts its festival every year, is a network that strengthens the presence of women in the audiovisual field, promoting equality and the elimination of discrimination.<\/p>\n

The audience that attended the screening did not hide its enthusiasm for the film, with many commenting on Lambed’s amazing cinematic vision. September Says<\/em>, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, will be released in Greek cinemas in 2025, distributed by Feelgood Entertainment.<\/p>\n

The 8th WIFT GR Festival, with its free admission and meaningful theme, reminded us of the importance of hearing women’s voices in cinema and left a strong mark on the cultural map of Athens.<\/p>\n
