Fum\u00e9e is smoke, and fum\u00e9 means tinted or smoked. As with most terms related to cars, French terminology (carburateur, porte-bagages, amortisseur, pare-brise, and others) has prevailed over the corresponding Greek, which is probably somewhat cumbersome. For example, how many of us use the word windshield in its literal Greek equivalent, or even shock absorber in the old-fashioned form? Let us see what applies in the case of sun-control films, as tinted windows are rendered in our language. I observe with the attention of an entomologist, usually at traffic lights, high-powered cars whose windows prevent any view of the passengers. On the very few occasions when they happened to roll them down, I saw young men who resembled\u2026 Vilanakides. Since, if my suspicion is correct, one can understand the reason why they do not wish to be visible, I turned to the Highway Code (K.O.K.) to learn what is provided on the matter. For tinted windows to be legal, therefore, a ministerial decision requires the following documentation: the installer\u2019s details, the type of film, the percentage of light transmission, and certification that the films are approved by a member state of the European Union. Therefore, all of us may install tinted windows, with the only restriction being the percentage of light transmission. A special exception is full tinting, which is permitted for individuals with certified medical problems. It now becomes clear that those who hide behind 100% sun-protection films possess medical certificates for serious skin disorders (lupus erythematosus, xeroderma pigmentosum, solar urticaria) or ophthalmological conditions (photophobia, albinism), following approval by a special medical committee, which they are required to carry with them at all times.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Christos Zabounis Fumer in French means to smoke.
