Developed by Grupo Habita and designed by Mexican architect Alberto Kalach together with Taller de Arquitectura X (TAX), the property combines Brutalist-inspired architecture, locally sourced materials, and a philosophy centered on harmony with the natural landscape.
The hotel operates entirely off-grid using 100% solar energy. Natural ventilation and passive cooling replace conventional air conditioning, while nearly all construction materials are sourced locally from Oaxaca. Earth, wood, brick, clay, and concrete create a restrained material palette that blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment.
Hotel Terrestre features just 14 private villas, each offering a rooftop plunge pool, private garden, outdoor bathroom, and terrace with hammocks overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Oaxacan mountains. Interiors showcase custom furniture by Oscar Hagerman alongside handcrafted details that celebrate traditional Mexican craftsmanship and natural materials.
The guest experience is complemented by an open-air restaurant serving Mexican and Mediterranean cuisine prepared with locally sourced ingredients, a lap pool, and a striking hexagonal spa dedicated to traditional bathing rituals. The wellness space includes hot, warm, and cold baths, a steam room, and contemplative relaxation areas designed to encourage complete disconnection.
