Moto Guzzi Museum

In Mandello del Lario, on the shores of Lake Como, Moto Guzzi is opening a new chapter in its history with a museum and transformed factory complex designed by American architect Greg Lynn. The project, the result of almost five years of work, reimagines the historic site where Moto Guzzi has been producing motorcycles since 1921, bringing together Italy’s industrial heritage with a distinctly contemporary architectural approach.

The new museum spans 3,000 square metres and houses more than 160 motorcycles, ranging from the company’s original GP prototype to racing models and machines associated with cinema, travel, art, the military and the police. The exhibition spaces were developed with UniFor, with bespoke plinths and vitrines for the motorcycles, archival material, helmets, clothing and objects that trace the history of the marque.

Lynn’s architecture is defined by a series of grey, undulating geometric forms that rise through the historic complex, offering a contemporary interpretation of the mountainous landscape surrounding Mandello. The building’s distinctive shape emerged primarily from the organisation of the interior, with interconnected exhibition spaces forming an architecture that feels almost organic.

One of the project’s most compelling features is its direct relationship with the factory itself. From an elevated viewing platform, visitors can observe the contemporary production process, where robotic systems and automated platforms transport motorcycles across the factory floor. Moto Guzzi’s history is therefore presented alongside the technology shaping its next chapter.
