The small coastal town of A Coruña in Galicia, northern Spain, is rapidly developing into an unexpected cultural destination for fashion photography enthusiasts. In the last two years it has hosted photo exhibitions by Peter Lindbergh and Steven Meisel. This autumn it is the turn of Helmut Newton, the German photographer, whose work as cultural heritage is the subject of the upcoming exhibition, entitled “Helmut Newton – Fact & Fiction”.
‘Fact & Fiction’ pays tribute to the famous photographer, who was born in Berlin in 1920 and started working for British Vogue in the late 50s – it was the start of a brilliant fashion career for Newton, who created his provocative, sensual photographs, and his work is extremely influential to this day.
This new exhibition/retrospective is curated by the Helmut Newton Foundation, with contributions in the curating department by Philippe Garner, Matthias Harder and Tim Jefferies.
Portraits of many figures including Andy Warhol, David Bowie, Karl Lagerfeld and Naomi Campbell will be on display, among others, as will a lesser-known side of his work, a series of landscape and city images from Monte Carlo to Los Angeles.
The exhibition “Helmut Newton — Fact & Fiction” will open at the Marta Ortega Pérez Foundation (MOP) in A Coruña, Spain on November 18, 2023, and will run until May 1, 2024.
