Basquiat: The World of Jean-Michel
[ssba]

Basquiat: The World of Jean-Michel by Assouline brings together the work, environment, and creative energy of Jean-Michel Basquiat through a large-format collector’s edition that functions both as an art object and an archival publication. The book follows Assouline’s signature approach, placing strong emphasis on materiality, print quality, and the physical presence of the object itself.

The edition includes more than 250 images, archival photographs, handwritten notes, and artworks spanning multiple phases of Basquiat’s career. Its thematic structure explores recurring elements within his practice, including heads, representations of the body, references to Black identity, the influence of 1980s New York, and collaborations with Andy Warhol.

The project was developed in collaboration with Colour Themes and includes contributions from collectors, curators, gallerists, and figures closely connected to Basquiat and the artistic scene surrounding him.
