Timeless illustrations

Some works of art have been passed into the collective memory through cinema and have become timeless images recognizable throughout the world. Posters of films such as James Bond 007, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever and Live and Let Die, the classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the comedy reference The Odd Couple and the cult Barbarella, are among them and are the work of Robert E. McGinnis. The artist and illustrator also created paintings for the covers of more than 1,200 books, playing a major role in the pulp fiction boom of the 1960s and 1970s. His work spans many genres and themes, from crime novels to thrillers, gothic novels, murder mysteries, romance novels and Wild West novels. His work on movie posters features stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Walter Matthau, Jack Lemmon, Jane Fonda, Burt Reynolds, Raquel Welch and James Coburn. McGinnis created paintings for many articles in major magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post, Good Housekeeping Magazine, Guidepost Magazine and National Geographic.
