Viva Frida

Frida Kahlo’s life and work  has influenced almost every art form throughout the world.

The immersive exhibition-experience “Viva Frida Kahlo” comes to Berlin’s Napoleon Complex, as a journey full of tension & historical value, into the life of the famous Mexican artist.

The exhibition promises a 360-degree sensory experience, an explosion of color and vibrancy. Visitors to the exhibition will start their journey at Casa Azul in Coyoacán, Mexico, where the young Frida Kahlo began painting after being bedridden following a serious accident.

Visitors are then transported into Frida’s world during the 1920s, 30s and 40s, and will immerse themselves in her colorful paintings and self-portraits that depict a life full of grace, pain and an unrelenting will to live.

Using high-performance projectors, Kahlo’s paintings, which appear almost as miniatures in their original form compared to how they are captured here, come to life and are projected onto walls up to 10 meters long and 5.5 meters high, as well as onto the floor of the exhibition hall. For an all-encompassing experience, a voiceover – narrator in the artist’s role guides visitors through the emotional world of the emancipated painter with original quotes – while a specially curated soundtrack complements the magnificent staging & art direction.
