Dedicated to nature

Nestled among the hills of Ubud in Bali, Indonesia, a rainforest environment, the home presented by design studio A Work of Substance was conceived as “a landmark that transcends the boundaries between nature and man”. What makes the two-storey building stand out from other newly constructed projects is that it almost disappears into the natural environment despite its size and clean lines. To achieve this, the team combined a palette of natural materials with an airy threshold between interior and exterior spaces and the use of vegetation – both curated and untamed – to soften the building’s linear volumes. Named after the steep ravines that shape the area, “The Ravine” encapsulates Bali’s respect for its natural landscape as it pays homage to culture and traditions.
